Summer 2004 saw the retirement of the High Master, Stephen Baldock, after a 46 year association with the School as a pupil, Deputy Head Boy, Teacher, SurMaster and subsequently High Master.
To commemorate this occasion and Stephen’s love of cricket, the Old Pauline Club ihosted a Summer Party featuring a cricket match at the School:
RS Baldock XI vs OPCC XI
The sides featured a wide mixture of players from generations ranging Stephen’s time in the 1st XI and those who played under his captaincy in 1963 to the current day School 1st XI, as well as distinguished members of the OPCC. Although Stephen didn't play in the game himself he presided over the day’s events. His son Andrew captained the “RS Baldock XI” whilst Tom Peters, the current Old Pauline Cricket Club Captain skippered the “OPCC Select XI”.
Stephen Baldock had been teaching at St Paul’s since 1970, and has made an enormous contribution as classics specialist, coach of cricket and rugby, vice-president of C Club, Housemaster of School House, Surmaster and High Master since 1992. His caring and thoughtful approach, his maintenance of the School’s Christian tradition and record of excellence, together with his guidance to many generations of Paulines and their parents, mark him out as one of the School’s most distinguished leaders – and products, given his own presence as pupil from 1958-63. During this time Stephen represented the 1st XI from 1961 to 63 and captained the side in 1963.
